Rural Emergency Hospital

The Rural Emergency Hospital is a new Medicare provider designation established by Congress through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. The new REH designation aims to maintain access to emergency services, observation care, and additional medical and outpatient services, in rural areas. We now have two REHs in Kansas. During this session, Jennifer Findley, Kansas Hospital Association, will provide an overview of the model, highlight technical assistance and discuss the suitability of the REH for your community.

Alternate Equipment Maintenance (AEM)

In this session you will learn what is an AEM program and why implementing an AEM program could benefit your facility. Shawn Clark is the Manager of Biomedical Services at HaysMed. In this role, he is responsible for the management of all medical equipment at HaysMed along with their Biomedical Outreach Program. The outreach program provides biomedical services to approximately 70 facilities in rural Kansas. In 2020, with an extensive 26-year career in healthcare, Shawn started the Alternate Equipment Maintenance (AEM) program at HaysMed, demonstrating his innovative approach to managing medical equipment. His leadership has played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of critical medical devices while prioritizing patient care and safety.

Enhancing Healthcare Facilities Management through Facilities Condition Assessments: A Medxcel Approach

Within the healthcare facility environment, the stakes are high and include financial efficiency, patient safety, and quality of care. Medxcel utilizes the facility condition assessment as a critical element of its facilities management service delivery, leveraging the tool to proactively identify potential issues before they escalate into costly or hazardous concerns. The facility condition assessment provides essential data including insights into the lifecycle of physical assets, enabling data-driven strategic planning including maintenance upgrades, replacements, and long-term capital planning. This process mitigates risks while enhancing the overall efficiency and sustainability of healthcare facilities, ensuring they can continuously support the critical services they provide to their communities.

The session will focus on what makes a facility condition assessment unique in a healthcare environment, key considerations during the planning process, the assessment’s role in proactively managing a facility, and how to leverage the data post-delivery.
